What is Cozy Companion?
Cozy Companion is a monthly magazine by Snowbright Studio that covers what’s going on in the world of cozy games and themed activities. It’s got TTRPGs, recipes, experiments, video games, artist interviews, board games all centered around a particular theme (like nautical exploration, tea, or summer). There’s digital or physical copies available, and there’s no AI!
Getting this magazine in the mail feels like when I was a kid getting a magazine full of fun puzzles and little games or getting a new little book about a special topic… except this is polished in a way that is engaging for adults too while still being interesting to my kid.
What about Cozy Companion is TTRPGkids covering?
I’m going to be highlighting the TTRPG elements in Cozy Companion and some of the activities from the magazine that paired well with those TTRPG elements. There’s more to the magazine than that (like cozy video games and board games), but I’m focusing on just the TTRPG and activity side of things because… I am TTRPGkids!
Cozy Companion Volume 27 – August 2026, cats and cafes
Monthly theme
Cozy Companion Volume 27’s theme was all about cats and cafes (and a cat cafe)! There’s some fantastically adorable and dynamic cat art, a coffee themed recipe and craft, an interview with cat cafe owners (and amazing pictures to match), and… a TTRPG review of Cats of Catthulhu!
TTRPG review of the month
The TTRPG review of the month was for Cats of Catthulhu by Joel Sparks, and the team of cat players tried out the Coffee & Cultists adventure from the De Felis Mysteriis expansion (great play on the double theme). The trio of adventurers uncovered a nefarious plot both in and below a Parisian cafe to save the day. While I imagine Lovecraftian themed games can get pretty dark, the playthrough example in the magazine seemed pretty all-ages friendly, so this might be one that I want to check out in the future with kiddo (who LOVES cats). This magazine also just does a great job of showcasing TTRPGs in their reviews by telling the story of what they did in the game, so it’s a good one to check out.
Themed recipes and crafts
This month’s recipes and crafts centered around coffee with an Espresso Semifreddo dessert and crafting tutorial on how to make a cardboard loom and weave coasters for your mug! Both have really clear pictures to show the whole process, and, these would both probably work well with the TTRPG of the month too.
Other highlights
There’s an interview with the owners of a cat cafe. Again, purrfect connection with the theme, and we just also really had a fun time reading this. I have said kiddo loves cats, and the idea of cats being at a cafe was something my child needed to know about. We’ve been working on getting kiddo (8yo) reading more longform pieces for gathering info, and this article, in particular, hit enough interesting ideas to hook kiddo into reading.
Cozy Companion Volume 28 – September 2026, feelings of fall
Monthly theme
Cozy Companion Volume 28’s theme had all the fall vibes and felt like warmth as the weather here suddenly went from 80F to a high of 65F for a whole week. This month’s review was for a game I’ve been meaning to check out for some time, we got to make the recipe (pictured in the header and will also have below) that I snacked on while reading the rest of the magazine, and there’s a great interview with The Storyteller Squad, a Monster of the Week TTRPG podcast!
TTRPG review of the month
The TTRPG review of the month was Ryuutama, a nature-focused JRPG-like tabletop game. From the roughly 3 page story in the review, players explored, faced Nekogoblins (cat goblins), cared for each other, and completed a dragon-y quest. The narration demonstrated how the game flowed with focuses on both handling big tasks and zooming in on day-to-day challenges that also require attention and healing. It definitely makes me want to play the game, and I loved getting to read about the entire playthrough in the magazine.
Themed recipes and crafts
The craft this month was how to make granny squares, which was also very cool, but, what hooked us was the recipe. It was cheddar apple sage biscuits and apple butter.
We made it, and it was DELICIOUS. It was like having a slightly savory apple pie for breakfast or snack, and my picky eater liked them so much that kiddo asked to take one to school for snack time (which I happily allowed and encouraged).
My picture of my bake is below, and I followed the recipe except… I had to do drop biscuits (spooned onto the tray) instead of rolled and cut biscuits because surgery recovery arms are still not happy with rolling dough (I’m working on it). Mine are a smidge more lumpy than the pictures in the magazine, but I think they tasted as intended, and they were great.
What I want to highlight with this is that this is a real recipe that was obviously invented by a real human and tried out to make sure that it worked AND they have super clear walkthrough pictures to make all the steps seem really approachable.
I love trying new recipes, and I collect recipe books, so, in a time where folks I know keep talking about how the recipe they got from the generated internet search summary was off… I just really appreciate that there’s humans who are still putting care into creating and trying and sharing their special recipe they made.
Other highlights
The interview this month was with a TTRPG podcast! They have a really interesting discussion about watching the flow of storytelling, different perspectives between the GM and player at the table, and how a TTRPG that’s made for viewers to enjoy is a bit different than when you’re playing a game that’s just for you and your fellow players. It’s very all-ages friendly, centers around TTRPG talk, and is a unique way to learn or teach about social awareness and flexible thinking by just reading what the interviewees have to say about the games they plan and play.
