The Hero's Tale

Review of The Hero’s Tale, a family focused tabletop RPG

I found out about The Hero’s Tale while reading Roll Dice, Build Character, a book about playing tabletop RPGs with family and tabletop RPG history that I reviewed in 2021!  After some chatting, I was actually able to play a session with the game’s creators, which was an awesome experience!  The Hero’s Tale was designed for smooth play, creating engaging characters, and easy encounter mechanics – I picked it up after a very quick pre-session review, and had a blast playing with Mark, Jake, and Brendon!

Interview with Kristin and Tim, creators of Adorablins!

As soon as I saw Adorablins, I was excited to try it out and interview the creators. It looks super cute and, it turns out, the original version was played with a 2.5yo in mind, so perfect for introducing to my kid! I had a lot of fun chatting with Tim and Kristin about their experiences, their game, and their advice as both parents and creators!
Inspirisles - a tabletop RPG for teaching sign language to teens

Review of Inspirisles, a uniquely beautiful sign language tabletop RPG for teens!

Inspirisles is a beautifully illustrated game that utilizes sign language as one of the core spell casting components!  Since I saw it, I knew I wanted to try it out with my kid, and I was very excited to see him pick Inspirisles up right away (he even asks for it as the sign magic game now).  Inspirisles is a truly teaching tool and game, and I hope you give it a try!

Tips and Tricks for turning your kid’s board games in tabletop RPG time!

Most people have probably played board games and are familiar with a lot of the mechanics.  For people new to tabletop RPGs, this familiar territory can be a great springboard for starting to introduce role-playing elements seen in TTRPGs before taking the dive into a totally new genre of games!

Review of Trouble at Santa’s Workshop, a Christmas tabletop RPG for all ages!

I heard about Trouble at Santa’s Workshop because of a charity event that was going on!  The creator was very kindly donating all proceeds from the game during Dec 2021 to a food drive charity for the holidays, and, with it also being an all-ages game, I really wanted to support.  Trouble in Santa’s Workshop was a great way to kick off some holiday family fun in our household, and was a nice easy game that got my son VERY excited about helping with holiday prep.
Whispers of the Voidbringer book

Book review for Whispers of the Voidbringer, tabletop RPG focused chapter book!

Whispers of the Voidbringer by M. Allen Hall is a TTRPG-inspired novel that gives a great example of kids playing D&D.  It follows the epic adventures of a group of player characters as they navigate a classic fantasy world in danger…. And it also follows the parallel journey of the kids playing these characters as they navigate each other, learn the game, and experience this awesome quest.  It was a fun read, and I hope you enjoy it as well!

Interview with Michael Low, creator of Starsworn and Luck of Legends!

I previously reviewed Michael’s game, Starsworn and listened to the playthroughs on Stories Podcast, and they were both so good, I kind of had to do an interview. Michael has a lot of experience and insight in playing TTRPG’s with kids and has done wonders for the kids in his educational programs! We talked about the games, advice, why TTRPG’s work so well with kids… so much solidly helpful information.
