What is Cozy Companion?

Cozy Companion is a monthly magazine by Snowbright Studio that covers what’s going on in the world of cozy games and themed activities. It’s got TTRPGs, recipes, experiments, video games, artist interviews, board games all centered around a particular theme (like nautical exploration, bees, or winter).

To me, this replicates the feeling of when I was a kid and would get a magazine in the mail then excitedly go do all the fun puzzles and little games in it or learn about a special topic they were covering… except this is polished in a way that is engaging for adults too and is something that is also interesting to my kid.

What about Cozy Companion is TTRPGkids covering?

I’m going to be highlighting the TTRPG elements in Cozy Companion and some of the activities from the magazine that paired well with those TTRPG elements. There’s more to the magazine than that (like cozy video games and board games), but I’m focusing on just the TTRPG and activity side of things.

Cozy Companion Volume 24: TTRPG and activities overview

Volume 24 of Cozy Companion‘s theme is a celebration of tea and spring flowers, coming with a recipe, craft, interview, history lesson, and TTRPG review that match!

Cozy Companion includes game reviews written by a trio of cats, Pixel (videos games), Dice (board games), and Scribbles (TTRPGs). This month’s Sessions with Scribbles article covered RiverBank by Kobold Press, which gives Wind in the Willows and Frog & Toad vibes in a full size TTRPG book. Scribble’s post walks you through the events of a session, including interactions with characters like Ms. Nevers the Magpie and Mrs. Bixby the Field Mouse as they explore, spill the tea on the town drama, and run into Haphazadries. It’s a great review in the form of a story that showcases a springy feeling TTRPG.

When it comes to snacks to pair with your game and continue the feeling afterwards, this issue includes a recipe (and decorating tips) for a beautiful focaccia that uses fresh veggies to make a floral masterpiece and a whole interview with Dryad Tea about how to make the best brews!

For the focaccia, I can say from experience that these are fun to make (particularly with a kiddo since it’s easy to place veggies). This is one I made with my family a couple years ago, and I really want to make another one now. The walk through in Cozy Companion is super clear, has pictures to go along with every step, and has some great tips and examples to help with getting the decorations to look the way you want. This would be a great snack to have alongside a cozy springtime TTRPG.

And for tea… I really enjoyed the interview with Dryad Tea. They’re a tea company that makes tea blends and blends tea with nerdy passions (particularly TTRPG themes… there’s a d20 dice set right on their front page). Thanks to tips in the interview from this issue, I started a month of experimenting with cold brewing my tea, and it has been pretty amazing. My favorites have been a chilled London Fog (Earl Grey tea with milk and lavendar) that comes out much smoother than the hot brewed version and my regular Jasmine Green tea that tastes way more floral when cold brewed. It’s a fun interview with some fun folks.

When it comes to crafts, there’s a cute pressed flower bookmark activity that reuses tea sachets as one of the main crafting ingredients and a framed art project that involves painting with tea! We’re saving a few flowers for this to use as a summer break art project, and I think they’d be a fun project to pair with a TTRPG summer camp or use a special book mark for your game books.

And finally, the history. There’s a whole article on the history of tea, given by one of the cats from Time Tails that’s both interesting and informative in how it dives into the origins and impacts of tea in different regions and cultures AND a great source of inspiration for new stories. I’m thinking this would be perfect to use for a system like Time Tails or could provide real exampes to draw from when making a tea shop in your cozy TTRPG games.

I hope you enjoyed this overview of Cozy Companion volume 24 and that it gives you a good idea of what to expect in future issues! It’s been a nice surprise every time, and I love being able to pair hands on activities and learning with TTRPGs, both on my own and with kiddo. I hope you enjoy getting to check it out too!
