What is the Hill of Tara?

The Hill of Tara is a 5000 year old burial mound site located in Boyne County, Ireland that was said to be where Conn, upon standing on the Stone of Destiny, was proclaimed High King by the good god, Lug.

Later, St. Patrick lit a fire near this site as an act against the pagan king, and, in the 1700s – 1800s, the Hill of Tara was also the site of rebellious movements. In the 1900s, people searched here for the Ark of the Covenant before archeologists officially excavated the site.

This brochure is a game where you’ll explore the stories, history, and excavation of The Hill of Tara.

3 Eras to Play

Welcome to: The Hill of Tara has three phases of play, each covering a different era in the story of what is the Hill of Tara.

Start with Era 1, where you seed the map with artifacts stemming from the strength of the High Kings of Ireland.

Move on to Era 2, watching as some artifacts are destroyed by new events… and others are created.

Then, conclude with Era 3 where you excavate the site, seeing how unsanctioned digs can damage historical landmarks, how artifacts may be missed, and how what we have today in physical memory of our past is so little of what was there.

1-player

This is a 1-player game where you’ll be acting out a story by altering the map through various phases versus trying to beat a clock or another person.
