Labyrinth of ConFusion 2024 recap

This past weekend, I was the Young Adult Guest of Honor at Labyrinth of ConFusion 2024! Check out here to see my recap of events including some highlights from events that I was in, cool people I got to meet (including a fav author), and my overall thoughts on the event!

TTRPGkids workshops and events at ConFusion 2024

I got to run some awesome events at ConFusion including a workshop on world building with teens, a game with the little kids, a workshop for grown ups about making TTRPGs, and more! I also had the joy of doing my first ever book signing (for which, I wore a Pikachu button up shirt) and doing a “kaffeeklatsch” where I got to do a nice morning chat with some very cool individuals.

Awesome people at ConFusion 2024

Over the weekend, I got to chat with the other Guests of Honor quite a bit about their work, games they enjoyed, and their experiences at previous ConFusion events. Cartoonist Kurt Erichsen and author Mark Oshiro were both wonderful people to talk with, and BluRaven C. Houvener from BCH Comics really helped guide me through quite a bit of the weekend. He and his group were gracious enough to invite me along to dinner each night and to both bond over shared geekdoms and talk shop.

Another highlight was getting to meet one of my favorite authors, John Scalzi! He is apparently a convention regular, and I was really glad to meet him, chat a bit about his books, and get my copy of Redshirts signed.

The convention committee was also absolutely amazing – everyone was very supportive, friendly, and focused on taking care of each other. I cannot thank this team enough for the friendliness and support throughout the event and for welcoming to their convention.

Overall thoughts on ConFusion

ConFusion was amazing.

It’s the longest running sci-fi and fantasy convention in Michigan, and I can definitely see why. This convention is largely a group of long standing friends who meet up to share their collective interests AND who welcome others to join in and do the same. It had a much more homey feel to it than most other conventions I’ve been to, and they went out of their way to be inclusive and welcoming.

I am honored to have been invited as a special guest this year, and I very much look forward to returning next year as an attendee!

Where to find TTRPGkids next!

The next TTRPGkids appearance is going to be at SXSW EDU 2024! Keep an eye out in the weeks to come for more details, and I hope to see some of you in Texas in early March!

Thank you for your interest in the convention and in playing tabletop RPGs with kids and helping to bring this fun hobby to the next generation! Keep up to date on new reviews, games, and articles with the TTRPGkids monthly newsletter, and please also let me know in the comments or by email if you have any questions or plan on attending the convention and talk!
