What is Halloween Plot Hooks from the 7yo DM about?

Halloween Plot Hooks from the 7yo DM is a list of a whole trove of plot hooks from the brilliant mind of a precocious young Dungeon Master, The Red Wyrmling, and published with the help of his dad, Redwyrm.

There’s story starters centering around ghosts, zombies, and more to help you make a scary character or setting for your next game!  These plot hooks are delivered in 38 one to two sentence clips and are meant to spark an idea so you can fill in the rest.

Who would Halloween Plot Hooks from the 7yo DM be great for?

The resource is very clear that just because these plot hooks are from a kid, it doesn’t mean they’re going to be all-ages friendly, and that’s OK.  Some kids (mine included) like things that are a bit gruesome or scary beyond what I, as an adult, would prefer in my games, so everyone is going to have a different tolerance or find different things fun.

That said, I would think this can work pretty well with most players ages 8+ (typical D&D age rec, and can work for younger as is evidenced by the fact the writer of the plot hook list was 7 at the time of writing) so long as you’re using safety tools, which are discussed in the doc and handled very well.  It’s a short and clear explanation that I think would work great for everyone, but would be particularly useful in games with kids because, fundamentally, it is about just listening, adjusting, and making sure everyone has fun.

Some of our favorites in Halloween Plot Hooks from the 7yo DM

The plot hooks in the list range from silly Halloween stuff to some fairly scary scenes to wonderful twists on common D&D and creepy story tropes.   I’m not going to spoil anything since you’ll need to check it out yourself, but I do want to tease some hints.

Some of our favorites on the more lighthearted or goofy side involve an outhouse ghost, an adorable puppy, and… a gnome.  On the scary side of things, we really liked the ones about the princess in her tower (and what she’s really locked away for), the blood ooze, and “the scary room”.
