Featured Project: Little But Fierce print edition, live on Kickstarter!

I’ve featured Little But Fierce a few times before (enough to make a website sub category). It’s one of my go-to recommendations folks looking to play specifically D&D with little kids, and it’s now funding a major update + print edition! Check out the latest on the project below, and go visit the campaign on Kickstarter to support!

*As a note, the intro above was written by Steph from TTRPGkids, and the article below was written by the project’s creator since content is in pre-release/crowdfunding. The article has been reviewed by TTRPGkids before posting to the site.

Little but Fierce is based on the creative commons version of the popular 5th Edition ruleset. It has been simplified and streamlined to become easily accessible to kids as young as six, as well as those with additional needs or players who just fancy a more streamlined ruleset.

The changes cover three main areas:

  • Rules, ensuring that unnecessarily complicated rules have either been simplified or removed entirely, keeping the spirit of 5E there without the scope for pedantic “rules lawyering”.
  • Language, making sure that both key terminology and prose explanations are as simple as possible, so either a young child can read it themselves or a parent can read it to them without need for paraphrasing.
  • Tone, keeping the fantasy fun but avoiding unnecessary mentions of more adult concepts (such as death) and removing any antiquated harmful tropes.

Back in 2022, DC Bradshaw released a digital-only Starter Edition that included the bare minimum you’d need to run a campaign, with a very limited range of classes, creatures, magic items etc. The Starter Edition has since gone on to become a Platinum best seller on DriveThruRPG.

Little But Fierce stats

Heroes in Little but Fierce have four abilities: strength, speed, smarts and smiles.

Speed:

Smarts:

As well as including the names for these abilities and skills, your hero sheet also includes bold icons to represent them, making the sheet easy to navigate for players who might struggle with their reading.
