Trenchcoat Raccoons: A Chaotic Heist RPG
Trenchcoat Raccoons is a fast, fail-forward TTRPG of chaotic heists, cartoon logic, and glorious disaster. Each player controls one raccoon in a stack, all pretending to be one very suspicious human in a trenchcoat, stealing cursed loot in a world of glam horror, glittering galas, mad science, and cryptid conspiracies.
It’s a game of big scores, silly improvisation, and wonderful derailment, because no heist ever goes smoothly, especially when everyone in the stack has their own wild ideas. Think the heist energy of Sly Cooper, the sibling chaos of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the weird whimsy of Gravity Falls, all crammed into one stack of disaster raccoons, constantly derailed by their own wild impulses.
What It’s About
At its heart, Trenchcoat Raccoons is about creative problem solving and collaborative chaos. One player takes the role of Game Master (GM). The GM sets scenes, plays all other characters, calls for rolls when the outcome is uncertain, tracks the rising Tension, and keeps the tone playful. The GM also helps the table fail forward, which means setbacks create new doors rather than dead ends. Scenes stay short and lively, and the group always has a next step.
Players roll to sneak past security, distract the caterers, or charm their way through the locations. All while managing their raccoon’s individual Impulses (like stealing shiny things or humming a spy theme). Every plan is fragile. Every success leads to new complications. And every failure moves the story forward in strange and delightful ways.
All you need to play is a six-sided die per player. Heists are self-contained and typically wrap in 2–3 hours, depending on in-game distractions.
Trenchcoat Raccoons leans into cartoon peril, not gore. Consequences look like toppled dessert carts, awkward party moments, singed sleeves, and fizzy juice-induced hiccups. Failing a roll pivots the story instead of punishing the player. Teamwork is baked in, since everyone contributes to the same trenchcoat persona and shares the spotlight naturally.
Recommended ages: 10+ with an adult or teen GM. 12+ to play and run independently.
Try It Out Right Now
The free Quickstart Guide includes all the rules you need to play with 3 players and a GM, along with a full one-shot heist: Recipe for Disaster.
In it, the raccoons must infiltrate a fruit-themed gala, outwit a juice-obsessed vampire CEO, and steal a mind-altering cocktail recipe before the whole party turns into euphoric thralls. (Yes, it’s weird. That’s the fun.)

You can also set the tone with the original Main Theme, composed by Luca Salis (who some may know from his incredible Sly Cooper cinematic tribute). It’s jazzy, slick, and mischievous in the best way:
Coming Up
The full book is launching soon on Gamefound as part of their RPG Party showcase and will feature more heists, more character types, and expanded GM tools and physical rewards like a raccoon personnel file, cocktail card, and doomsday device blueprints (not real..Probably).
Follow the Trail of Chaos on Gamefound
Trenchcoat Raccoons is a game that rewards creativity, not perfection. It encourages active listening, collaborative thinking, and joyful storytelling. Every mess becomes part of the plan. Or at least…what was the plan until five minutes ago.
If you’ve got players who love a good caper, a weird world, and the thrill of making up solutions on the fly, Trenchcoat Raccoons might just be their next favorite game.
