Greeting Games: Survey Mishap
Last week’s main goal was to get the surveys out, and… it worked! Kind of…
Review and smoke test
During the Backerkit survey review process, there was an error where a question template was copy/pasted from a different campaign from another creator on Backerkit into mine, so it started directing folks away from the add-ons page.
I had missed a situation where it was applying the cross-collaboration reward to the digital rewards, not just the physical ones (as was intended), which meant folks from other countries were getting charged a ton of shipping for a couple of postcards.
Neither of these were caught in the smoke test surveys, so the surveys went out to the masses after it looked like the smoke test was good, and THEN we started seeing issues thanks to a couple of backers who pointed out the shipping charges and “no add-ons” message (THANK YOU to both of you).
Resolving the issues
After chatting with Backerkit team, it only took a day or so to correct, but we had to restart most of the surveys, which I know a couple people were not too happy about since there were a lot of choices to pick for the cards.
Lessons learned
For lessons learned…. my take away is that after I do my check and send to the Backerkit team to do their check, I am going to try out additional test surveys to basically do my own smoke test in addition to the one that goes out early to a handful of backers. I also now know how to check if cross-collab rewards are going to all tiers, and, to mitigate risk and make sure that digital backers get rewards too, I think I might stick with digital only for future cross-collab rewards.
Current status and next steps
All that aside, I think we’re good on the surveys now, and by the time they finish (in about 3 weeks), art will be done and I can order the correct quantity of cards based on the responses we collect.
The pre-order store is also still open! If you want to get cards for Christmas, Halloween, or anything in between, you can find the pre-order store here to get cards along with the core campaign backers:

For next steps, we’re still on track for the planned release, and here’s the overall timeline below:
July: Talk to Backerkit about pre-order store for late backersJuly: Send out surveys- Aug: Finalize art
- Aug: Collect payment and lock addresses
- Aug: Order cards based on final quantities
- Sept: Ship cards to backers
StoryGuider: Launch Party Imminent!

We have 100 pre-launch followers!! This was my milestone that I wanted to hit by GenCon so we would have a solid crowd to get the launch party started, and I’m excited to be kicking that off, hopefully this week!
I’m getting the page set up right after writing this, and then have a review set up with a mentor tomorrow (Thursday) to get a second set of eyes on what I have planned.
Once it goes live, I’ll be kicking things off with a giveaway for a free pledge and some extra goodies that will be added if additional milestones are reached before launch.
Next steps are:
July: reach 100 pre-launch followers- July/Aug: kick off teen artists based on pre-funding goals
- July/Aug: pull ads on indie newsletters/websites
- Aug: finish the digital doc for Will the Wizard
- Aug: order prototype print for Will the Wizard (to test out/confirm printer)
- Aug: start launch party on Backerkit
- Sept: launch day!
With GenCon prep, I wasn’t able to kick off the teen artists, but I do have that on the plan for this week. This early kick off is coming from pre-launch funding that’s being collected on itch.io and ko-fi, and it’s close enough to where I’m comfortable getting this started so our teens can do some of the work for the project before school.
For ads, I created a press kid and reached out to the first podcast/youtube channel. I also have my list compiled for who to reach out to next. Once recombobulated from GenCon, I should have all my applications in by the end of next week, and we’ll be spreading the word beyond the current TTRPGkids bubble!
If you’d like to support the project, you can follow it here or contribute to pre-funding by buying digital games by TTRPGkids.
TTRPGkids convention plans for the remainder of 2025
GenCon is done, and I’m taking a break for conventions for a little over a month… before jumping into 4 conventions between October and November!
Look out for me at:
- Ban This Book Fest (MI) October 11
- Gamehole Con (WI) October 16 – 19
- U-Con (MI) November 14 – 16
- Pax U (PA) November 21 – 23
Until then…. happy gaming!
